We're pretty sure Mia is part Maine Coon. But maybe she's got a little lynx in her too.

Johnston Foster
A couple weeks ago, while in Chinatown for Harvest Moon dinner, we discovered a Johnston Foster show at the POVevolving Gallery!
His found object sculptures were fascinating. The largest piece was a skeleton riding a pony, surrounded by wasps. The skeleton is made of plastic lawn chairs!
It's a shoe sole tongue!
The name of the show is Head Stash and it runs through October 7. Check it out!

Money Tree
It's been a year since I got my little money tree.
2010
2011
It's a slow grower. The ragged leaf is the result of Micio's curious nibbling.
I was smitten with the morning light filtering through the drapery leaves and the plant leaves this day.

Harvest Moon + Art on 9/10/11
Last weekend we had dinner with the family to celebrate the Moon Festival. Also known as the Mooncake Festival. (mmm...mooncake...)
And then art. Wandered around the Chung King Road galleries a bit. It was the final Chinatown Summer Nights of the season. So festive! I wish Chinatown was like this more often.
Food+Family+Art+Music...all under the harvest moon.
Lovely evening.
ok...I'm off to enjoy the mooncake my mom saved for me.

Fairy
So.
We have another Terri Planty creation.
This little gal was supposed to be a gift to a friend.
But I took one look at her and really, how was I supposed to give her away? I quickly thought of another (and turns out waaay more appreciated) gift and kept her.
She's gonna sit on our sideboard until we decide where to hang her.

A Terri Planty Creation: elsie+sergio.
Hey. You all remember Terri Planty, right? She's one of my bloggity faves.
The lovely Bianca D'Amico created this beautiful custom terrarium for us. It's in a vintage vessel - if you know anything about me+sergio, you know this is SO me+Sergio.
The photographer is me and the painter/artist is Sergio. Apropos, yes?
We both love this creation so much.
Grazie Bianca. We adore it. So: "Quando prendiamo un bicchiere di vino?"

Hope Tree
A lot has happened in my life since this day 10 years ago. At the time, I was working my second job out of college at yet another failing dot com, living with an old but distancing friend in a West L.A. apartment, Sergio was living 3000 miles away in Boston. Priorities shifted soon after that terrible day. Sergio made the decision to move to where I was...and it was like my life bloomed.
Case in point, yesterday. A good friend came to my house in the morning and we strolled down to our favorite coffee shop (where I said hello to neighbors) and we sat and chatted and took our time. We took in some art and perused local wares. After lunch in Eagle Rock, we strolled some more, visiting shops with friendly shopkeepers, and just enjoyed being leisurely and our company.
On the way home, we came across this special tree on the grounds of a small neighborhood church. Droplets of hope sprouted and suspended from the branches.
Some clung and swayed, braving the breezes together.
Some were silly. Some were beautifully simple.
When we got home, Sergio was there and we listened to him tell stories of his own inspiring day.
It was quiet, ordinary and wonderful.
I hope the next 10 years are just as perfect as this day.

Broome St. General Store - Fried Chicken Friday
This great place has been written up all over the blogospheres and most notably for me, by Oh Joy! She oft tweets/blogs her love for fried chicken and if she puts her stamp of approval on Cube Cafe's spicy version, served here on Fridays, it must be delicious.
Broome St. General Store's signature Fried Chicken Friday offers a dinner picnic for two. The chicken was amazing, of course. Sergio thinks it might be the best he's had in L.A. or maybe even ever. What I really fell for was the Caprese salad - burrata, heirloom tomato, juicy peach, basil. The burrata in particular was divine. The meal finishes with a dense chocolate brownie. yummmm......
Sergio pushed the goodness over the edge when he went to order coffees and came back with this amazing blueberry muffin.
We had to take a nice loong stroll after that.

Madewell - FALL 2011
I recently received this lovely catalog in the post. Want join me on my visit with it?
First, I think that model is gorgeous. I am currently trying to grow out my hair. I wonder if I'll make it to that length before I chop it. Also, I really like those eyebrows. Mine are almost like that, but less groomed and less, well, perfect.
And, how much am I loving that taupey gray + sunshiney yellow text? A lots.
Chambray-like shirt dress. Widelegged Jeans. Yes please.
Polka dot pants. Too bad they're both tapered, cropped AND pleated. All three combine to be like the ultimate weapon of leg shortening destruction. At least on me. I think it only looks good on former Estonian soccer stars, like this model.
That rusty orange dress is so pretty. It may deserve a store visit. That outfit on the right totally makes me nostalgic for Boston. I miss Boston, especially since Fall's coming soon!
