On Memorial Day, we hopped in the car and traveled a gorgeous scenic route up to Harrisville, New Hampshire. Our destination was the prettiest lakeside cabin -- Nora's cabin. The petite white structure is cradled by tall green trees all around and sits just above the road for the perfect gaze right out to the smooth, calm lake. The cozy inside is filled with so much art! Love it. It was fun to witness Sergio reminisce and rediscover childhood trinkets stashed around in nooks and crannies. I think this place deserves its own photo post so here it is.
Isn't it adorable? I just wish the weather was a touch better. We never got to enjoy that wonderful deck! Next time. Also next time I'll bring a real Sancerre. Not a red one.
P.S. I have to admit, I am very much a city girl. Sergio was my hero in helping me handle a heightened fear of bugs in unfamiliar territory. He indulged my irrationality and did most of the cleaning and vacuuming as soon as we arrived since the cabin had been closed for the winter before us. It wasn't so bad. I guess. Mostly old cobwebs. He said there were slugs in the toilet coming up from the septic tank but he got rid of those before I saw them. Thank goodness.

East Coast Trip 2012 - Photo Diary 3
Gosh I love weddings. Celebration of love, friendship and public declarations of forever...food, drinks and dancing. What's not to love? This morning we headed out to Long Island for the wedding and quite frankly (despite my planning) were running a little late. It seemed that everyone was on the roads Memorial Day weekend, headed toward the water. Thank goodness for pre-ceremony cocktail hour!
The reception took place in the most beautiful glass ceiling room.
The stormy weather had cleared just in time for the wedding and luckily, (mostly) stayed that way for the rest of our visit.
The day after the wedding, we drove back out from Brooklyn to Long Island to meet up with some of my college peeps for brunch. Per Lauren's suggestion, we headed to Bruce's where I ordered the rightfully famous corn flake french toast. egads. I might try to recreate it!
It had been so long since I had seen this wonderful ladies. It was so good to finally catch up and grab some hugs!
Afterwards, Sergio and I drove around and explored. It's amazing how lush and green it is in Long Island. Fort Totten turned out to be one of our favorite discoveries.
I wish we had Mr. Softee in Los Angeles! I think the nearest is in Goodyear, Arizona. Roadtrip?

GIRL CRUSH: Candice Bergen
Just caught an interview with Candice Bergen on Rock Center. They flashed this photo of her and I fell head over heels.
Photo from instyle.com
She is 66 now and still carries herself with such amazing grace and honesty. And she's damned funny.

East Coast Trip 2012 - Photo Diary 2
Day two was spent in Manhattan.
We shelled out $40 to park all day at a lot close to the 9/11 Memorial site. Visitors are asked to pre-order tickets online and we didn't but the day-of line at the Memorial preview site wasn't so bad. While at the preview site I felt...I don't know how to describe it...sad? moved? scared? proud? I had a giant painful lump in my throat the entire time and had to walk into the giftshop area to prevent a total loss of control. Seeing personal items like a wallet, a badge, or a photo that were all retrieved from the rubble was really hard. I'm sure by design, the actual Memorial site was a completely different experience. It was beautiful and fitting. Afterwards, we took a looong walk through crowds and heat all the way to Soho. There were a couple of much needed stops into different Starbucks (there are so many!) to rest. That evening we made our way over to my Auntie's for lobster. And so much butter.
Water and glass. Reflections.
I wish we got to spend more time in SoHo. But also a little glad we didn't. The shopping is dangerously good there. Also, I was tired and cursing the extra camera weight in my bag so left it in there the entire walk. So much easier to snap with a phone.
Again, love this bridge. I think I took a photo of it every single time we saw it. Such a nerd.

East Coast Trip 2012 - Photo Diary 1
The blog will probably be all about our trip for a while. Hope you don't mind. And if you do, well, tough cookies. Also, self-editing is the hardest thing for me. I'll put up photo diary posts while I work on several in-depth posts about our favorite places and moments. If you feel like peeking, I'm slowly uploading images to my Flickr photostream. They're a bit out of order but oh well. I took over 800 photos (in addition to Instagram) so it's slow going. Maybe I'll have the energy to go back and reorganize later. Or not. Anyway.
Enjoy!

We spent most of our time in Brooklyn the first day. From Williamsburg we walked Bedford Ave. all the way to Greenpoint. Later in the evening, Steve picked us up and took us into the city for dinner and dessert. It was a bit soggy for a lot of the trip but I didn't mind so much. Day one was also probably our most gluttonous. Yum.
Love this bridge.
Mast Brothers
Brooklyn Arts Library
McCarren Park
Five Leaves
Williamsburg Sloth
Bedford Back Bar
Highway snaps.
5 Napkin Burger
Sundaes and Cones
Enjoy!
