Going Postal

I know it's futuretimes right now we're all exchanging information by coding it into invisible zeros and ones, sending it magically through the air to outer space and beaming back to earth. But there is something about hand deliveries from the postman, right? Especially if you're using these beauties.

By the way, the girl who designed the beautiful ribbon love stamp is the girl in this story (if you're into graphic design or just plain amazing skill in any way, prepare to have your mind blown): http://jessandruss.us/

East Coast Trip 2012 - Photo Diary 7

Our final day in New York was one of my favorite of the trip. We discovered a great restaurant with a sweet jewel of a courtyard called Trestle on Tenth. Then we spent the day walking The High Line. This elevated park and walkway is the: Best. Thing. Ever. It is such a special, whimsical place, filled with art, nature and plenty of smiley folks marveling at how good a time they are having. We strolled around the Meatpacking District and happened upon a Helmut Lang sample sale at Chelsea Market. Then we met up with Carla in her hood for tasty dinner at Hopeland, Boerum Hill. It really seemed like how we would spend a free day if we lived in New York.

East Coast Trip 2012 - Photo Diary 6

We spent a beautiful day in Boston, time traveling into the past.

We met in the Spring of 1999 at this tavern when it was a latin bar called Sophia's. The crowd was super friendly and EVERYONE danced. There was live salsa music, sangria and a rooftop patio. We boogied until sweat dripped down our backs and the lights came on. It was a magical time.

We accidentally ended up on a toll road but it was worth it.

We drove straight to Krolewskie Jadlo in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The food was delicious but oof, so heavy. After stuffing ourselves silly, we headed back over to Bedford Ave. to walk it off and maybe find a stiff drink to help us digest.

A drink under the stars on the rooftop patio of Juliette Restaurant capped the penultimate evening of our trip.

Hi there

So um...I haven't forgotten about this blog. I promise. It's just that we've been so busy and my time is filled with other things now...like working out (yuck) and making watermelon juice.

Come see me on Instagram and Twitter. If you're wondering what's going on in my life, that's where you'll find me these days.

@elauinc

If you don't have instagram, you can see my posts on Ink361.

Maybe I'll have some time this weekend to process the rest of the epic east coast trip photos and move the heck on already. Maybe not.

Anyway. Have a good weekend you guys! Wear sunblock!

East Coast Trip 2012 - Photo Diary 5

After saying goodbye to the cabin, we met a local maple syrup maker in Dublin, NH. She described harvest season when they poured the raw syrup into the machine, opened up the roof and warm sweet aroma flooded the shop and surrounding area. We then grabbed a meal at the local diner and headed down to Boston.

It was so fun to revisit our old haunts. A giant part of my heart is in Boston. It really is a beautiful place. Strolling around town, we felt like we were hanging with an old friend instead of tourists. Sergio took me to where he used to live. My favorite was in the oldest sections of Boston - Beacon Hill and Charles Street. The brick sidewalks and gas lamps made me feel like I was on a movie set except this was the real deal.

We stopped in the old Bull & Finch, now called Cheers Beacon Hill. I managed to live in Boston for four years and never made it inside. Since Sergio was on a greatest hits tour of his time in the city, we had to go. (He was once banned from returning to the pub! You'll have to ask him for the story.)
