Our first family roadtrip was beautiful. We stayed in a small cabin that is part of Sequoia Resort, just about 40 minutes outside of the parks. We were also able to save some money by cooking dinners ourselves. It was the perfect location, away from the bustle of in-park lodging. Though, next time we may just try the Grant Tent Cabins - they looked kind of fun! Luca did really well. He slept a lot in the car. He did fuss towards the end of our car ride back to the cabin on our main park day. It was a really long time for him to be stuck in the car seat - I would fuss too if I had to sit in that thing so long. We tried to stop often to make sure his diaper was clean and to nurse.

It is incredibly difficult to capture the majesty and enormity of the sequoias in a photograph. You really have to be there to gaze up and up and up, and try to wrap your head around the fact that the biggest trees were saplings during biblical times. They really are the ultimate survivors. Hopefully we'll get to retun soon when Luca is a little older so we can spend more time on some of the trails.

We took a different road out of the valley and were so pleasantly suprised at how pretty it was (and less curvy!)

Also we were happy to have picked Exeter as our lunch spot. They're known for murals and the entire town looks like Pleasantville.

  1. Glad to hear about this place! We have been checking into it...we've never been. I don't think they take reservations for camping, so it always went to the bottom of the list! When we break our new (old) trailer in, we'll get to go! --Cathey and Enn (I have photos of Alex in his car seat on the Yosemite campground floor!)
