Blogger Meet-Up

Blogger Meetup

Jessica Davis is an interior designer who blogs at The Eagle's Nest. She reached out and invited me to a Blogger Meet-Up she hosted last Sunday. I was so honored to be included! Unfortunately, I cut outta there so quick for Nelson's birthday, I only got to chat with a couple of the people! Judging by the burger exchange emails that ensued post meetup, there must have been some great and fun conversations I missed out on. Boo.

Anyway, I did manage to snag a tour of Jessica's beautiful home. It's tucked up against a hill in Eagle Rock and is gorgeously turned out, natch. I was particularly taken with the nursery, adorned with pale blue/white stripes on the ceiling. But, I didn't want to be too rude so I contained my photo taking to the living/dining area when I had a tiny moment to myself.

Not Black Friday Shopping

Popomomo Ladder top
New tops!

I supported Small Business Saturday in a big way this year. I was happy to discover great new (to me) lines and even met a couple of the designers!

Group picture (l-r):
Naked Zebra cowl criss-cross sweater top. (Lady)
Vintage beaded sleeveless sweater, perfect for NYE! I love that the tag reads: Made in British Hong Kong. It makes me think of my family. (Owl Talk)
Popomomo wine colored ladder top made from Tencel - derived from wood pulp! super cool. (Letters from L.A.)
Myne by Ashley Ann top. (Letters from L.A.)
These new duds are puttin' a swagger in my step.

Ok. Well, that was fun. Back to not shopping for a while. My wallet is gaping at me and it's not pretty. ;-)

Hope Tree

A lot has happened in my life since this day 10 years ago. At the time, I was working my second job out of college at yet another failing dot com, living with an old but distancing friend in a West L.A. apartment, Sergio was living 3000 miles away in Boston. Priorities shifted soon after that terrible day. Sergio made the decision to move to where I was...and it was like my life bloomed.

Case in point, yesterday. A good friend came to my house in the morning and we strolled down to our favorite coffee shop (where I said hello to neighbors) and we sat and chatted and took our time. We took in some art and perused local wares. After lunch in Eagle Rock, we strolled some more, visiting shops with friendly shopkeepers, and just enjoyed being leisurely and our company.

On the way home, we came across this special tree on the grounds of a small neighborhood church. Droplets of hope sprouted and suspended from the branches.

Hopes sway with the breeze

Some clung and swayed, braving the breezes together.

Hope cluster

Some were silly. Some were beautifully simple.

Love this hope

When we got home, Sergio was there and we listened to him tell stories of his own inspiring day.

It was quiet, ordinary and wonderful.

I hope the next 10 years are just as perfect as this day.

2011 Anniversary Weekend Eats Roundup

We had plans to get away, visit the seaside or the desert, explore... but then we checked the weather forecast and decided to switch things up. We stayed in town and had a weekend-long date. Movies, drinks, foooood.

We topped the weekend off by pairing our celebratory bubbles with supermarket takeout. Tee hee!

Robots living in Eagle Rock

Spike Jonze's recent Sundance splash was a short film about robot love called I'm Here. Much of the exteriors were shot in Eagle Rock. This is where Sergio and I hang out. A lot. Too much, probably. The film is 30 minutes. I think that maybe, it's supposed to be a sweet film. However, I find it kind of disturbing in the end. The music was great, par for the course in a Jonze movie. Anyway, always fun to see our local nabes given some love by a location scout.

That parking lot scene? It's the Eagle Rock Plaza, which contains stores that cater to the large local Filipino community. There's a Target there, from which I just purchased a bag of Feline Pine kitty litter earlier tonight. We are testing different types/brands. We can't seem to settle on one brand/type.
