Silver Lake Meadow

A couple weeks ago, we spent some time with Betsy, Justin, Elora and Megan at the Silver Lake Meadow. We loved it and think Luca liked it too. It was our first time there but also his first time hanging at a park a all. We think he did pretty well! It was nice to be on the grass and just enjoying the sunset. A few more photos here.

Elora update

Impromptu pizza dinner at Betsy and Justin's. Of course, I mostly took photos of Elora. She's so much bigger than the last time we got to see her! She's so strong and happy.








I really do need to visit Elora in the daytime so I can get better photos. I'm just not skilled enough in low-light conditions. Her cuteness shines through anyway though!

Broome St. General Store - Fried Chicken Friday

This great place has been written up all over the blogospheres and most notably for me, by Oh Joy! She oft tweets/blogs her love for fried chicken and if she puts her stamp of approval on Cube Cafe's spicy version, served here on Fridays, it must be delicious.

Broome St. General Store's signature Fried Chicken Friday offers a dinner picnic for two. The chicken was amazing, of course. Sergio thinks it might be the best he's had in L.A. or maybe even ever. What I really fell for was the Caprese salad - burrata, heirloom tomato, juicy peach, basil. The burrata in particular was divine. The meal finishes with a dense chocolate brownie. yummmm......







Sergio pushed the goodness over the edge when he went to order coffees and came back with this amazing blueberry muffin.



We had to take a nice loong stroll after that.

Dream Collective

So you all know of my obsession with Clare Vivier's bags, right? Well, she partnered with Kathryn Bentley and opened up shop in Silver Lake!

If you remember, Kathryn was one of Jeana's early Closet Visit subjects. Of course, it was a lovely opening party with flowing champagne and conversation. How could I resist picking out a new bauble in such a festive atmosphere?

I chose the Crystal Mountain/Mala Beads Necklace from Kathryn Bentley's Dream Collective, her more accessible, but no less wonderful line earthy jewelry.


I wore it every day for a week and half. Here, I paired it with colorful vintage African beads I picked up at a sidewalk sale. I was told that the beads are Italian made but used in the African trade.

8.27.2010 - Dinner and a stroll

Sergio got a haircut last week. Cutie.

Red Lion (...rrawr...)

Betsy and Justin invited us to a night out at Red Lion with some of Justin's work buddies. They had the most gigantic beer steins! I didn't get beer though -- that's a mini-bubbly bottle I'm holding. Sergio tried to order Laphroaig but the bartender had never heard of it. We discussed Halloween costumes. Oddly, last call was at 1AM. It's been a long time since we've stayed out late enough to hear last call. Maybe that's what it is everywhere. We hung out at their house a bit after. Someone ate a jalapeno on purpose. (There is a video floating around somewhere.) We didn't get home until past 3AM! yowsa!

Sunday in Silver Lake

Betsy and I got mani/pedis at Harmony while Sergio went to the driving range at Griffith Park and Justin did yard work. Afterward, we all met up at the Red Lion Tavern. It's quickly becoming our spot to just sit and chill. We had champagne splits. Betsy got potato pancakes and I ordered turkey bratwurst. I got kind of bored with my food and gave most of it to Sergio. It wasn't bad--I just wasn't that into it. The sauerkraut was surprisingly sour but pretty good. I rarely eat it so I'm not sure if it's the best I've tasted...but I did like it a lot.

B&J invited us to a casual veggie BBQ at their place for later in the afternoon -- a couple of Justin's work friends were stopping by pre-Staple center. We like hanging with B&J so of course we said yes!

Apparently, they gave their resident elf a new house. Little F-er was a gift from Betsy's mom and his house was a gift to Betsy from Justin.

We also got to see their Worm Factory composter. I so want one! Betsy got it at All Shades of Green on Rowena. Maybe one day...when we have that backyard...we'll get our very own worms.

Betsy introduced us to a potato football -- basically potato slices wrapped in foil into a football shape. We put in garlic paste, a little salt, olive oil and a bunch of herbs. Everything turned out real yummy.

It's always so relaxing hanging at their house.
