Rebecca's Birthday 2011

Lovely Rebecca had a birthday and we lucky friends were invited to celebrate! The food. The food. Oh, the food. Albert's seriously amazing culinary skills were on full display this night. Everything was absolutely delicious. Tempered by many, many bottles of wine, conversation and laughs, the evening waxed wonderfully, fantastically long.

Happy birthday Rebecca T.! Thank you and Albert so much for having us over for this incredible meal.

Pssst! Hey! There is a photo of Sergio full-on smiling WITH TEETH in this album!!! Woohoo!

Aloe Blacc on Conan

Aloe Blacc performed on Conan yesterday. We don't have TBS but luckily, Conan put performance up on the website:

My old college roommate introduced me to Farmer last month. He's the dude rocking out on keyboards.

Thrifty Thursday! 1.20.11

A new fountain for the garden!

Isn't it pretty?

Well, it wasn't exactly thrifty. But, it WAS marked 50% off at Potted's annual sale. It obvs isn't hooked up yet. But we think it's still quite lovely as is.

Our Roof

This is our garage roof. It's a little mismatched but it works now, thanks to Sergio.

During the deluge a few weeks ago, while our friends were visiting, we witnessed a torrent of water washing out from under the garage door, down the driveway.

Hmm...not normal nor ideal.

Sergio climbed up top and well, found that he had a little roofing to finish up apparently. It had two different kinds of shingles, which was fine, but was also missing quite a few rows where the roofing paper was exposed! Yeesh. Now, it sports three different types of shingles and is watertight. :)

And then, there was the leak in our master bedroom closet discovered at the same time. It shorted out the closet light too. sigh.

He climbed up into the attic to take care of it and donned a particularly stylish full body clean-up suit to protect himself from fiberglass insulation.

He was serious. He got it done.

Vintage gurgle jug, stamped Dartmouth - Devon - England. It makes a glug, glug sound when being poured. So whimsical and fun!

Polaroid + Lady Gaga = Grey Label

i. want.

lady gaga bringing Polaroid back?

From the Polaroid website:

• Brings the Polaroid Instant Experience to Life: Introducing a new generation to the joy of instant photography, the GL30 uses next generation ZINK Zero Ink Technology from ZINK Imaging.

• Fuses the Digital and Physical Worlds: Featuring the benefits of a digital camera, instant photo printer and digital display, the GL30 is a creative tool that delivers the best of the digital and physical worlds.

• Pays Tribute to Polaroid's Legacy: Reminiscent of Polaroid cameras of the past, the GL30 is clearly a significant departure from a typical camera. Designed for longevity, the GL30 is not only for the future, it's an object of desire. Users can select from a number of filters and borders to create truly original images that instantly fit in the palm of your hand.

The GL30 Instant Digital Camera will be available later this year, at a price to be announced.

I know I'm a little late in posting this but I just had to share. I think if anything qualifies as AMAZING, this is it.

The photo was part of the 2010 National Geographic Photography Contest. This one got Honorable Mention. The Grand Prize winner is pretty awesome too but I think Supercell was robbed!

Thrifty Thursday 1.6.11

You know, it's rather dangerous to have a good vintage store in walking distance.

I actually saw this a month ago but decided to purchase another piece instead -- one that was made by Mim and reminds me of sea anemone. I'll have to remember to post that one some time too. Anyway, at the time, Mim put it aside for me. So I waited until I felt enough time had passed to qualify as a respectable waiting period before buying yet another necklace. Seriously. It's a bit out of control.

I feel like Cleopatra when I wear it.

Aloe Blacc

While Marti was visiting, we invited her cousin, Farmer, over for dinner. He lives in L.A. and is a musician. He is currently on keyboards for eponymous band, Aloe Blacc, (E. Nathanial Dawkins). Soul. Funk. Awesome. I am a fan.

His current album is available on eMusic and iTunes. Some may recognize "I Need a Dollar" as the theme song to HBO's How to Make It In America.

I also love this video:

A bed.

Remember our final goal for 2010? Here are the before and afters, as promised.

12.31.10

1.1.11 - We think it's dreamy.

Unexpected bonus: Our mattress is now magically comfortable! Turns out, that old box spring it sat on really wasn’t much support. I had always thought we simply made an unwise mattress selection years ago which has resulted in near daily morning backaches for both of us. The mattress now sits directly on the bed’s wood slats and coupled with the dramatic new height, bedtime is suddenly infused with fancy hotel bed-ness. We love it.

P.S. I'm very clumsy when it comes to IKEA furniture. um... Who am I kidding? I'm just generally clumsy all the time. So Sergio put together nearly the entire bed. I only helped hold up a couple boards. He was very conscious of my our goal to get it done before the new year. And he did it! My hero.
