Elodie got a new house

Remember Elodie?

Well, here she is, about 9 months later, in her new amazing home. Look at that girl's furniture! She is one mod swingin' lady! And the view from her deck? My goodness.

What? No pics of the parents? YOU try and take photos of baby parents when this cutie is around. Her refusal to smile on cue just made her all the more alluring.

Clog-tastic

That's right. I hopped onto the clippity cloppity clog-wave. A teeny bit tardy but I've never been ahead of the curve fashion-wise. Except, maybe tomorrow. See P.S. at bottom. Anyway, I have also succumbed to the cross legged starlet pose. I'm not proud.

But I love the shoes.

P.S.
Tomorrow, I am attending a CViv trunk show for her new Winter Collection. At the Soho house. I'm a little nervous. I've never been to a trunk show. I hope I don't make a fool of myself.

Sharkpig

Have you heard of Sharkpig? The best videographer ever. He is part of The Flashdance, "a collective of artists who think you deserve a rad wedding."

Here is one of the best wedding party videos ever. It's a total Flashdance wedding and it makes me want to boogie down like Jennifer Beals.

Sergio’s birthday celebration - Hint #1

Sergio’s birthday party is in two weeks! It’s a big one this year. Some would say he will be entering middle-aged. (oh the horror!) But I think he’ll be forever young. Cue Alphaville:

Anyway, I have some big things planned to help usher him into...adulthood. And they’re all a surprise! Since he reads this blog, I will not divulge anything specific until post birthday. I will drop hints though. One today and another next week.

Hint #1

What is that? It’s a moustached, pearl-wearin’ party coyote, that’s what. He’s ready to get his party on! And yes, I drew him. Cute huh?

Magic Castle

Only members or invited guests get to enter the Magic Castle. Betsy got a hold of a pass so we dressed up and rode on up into the Hollywood hills. We said "Open Sesame" to a little owl to open the bookcase from the lobby into the first bar area. We tipped a piano player who wasn't there by putting bills into an empty birdcage. Our "Castle Knight," Robin, gave us a tour and personal magic show in between the bigger shows. The place and magicians were kitschy and perfect. I can't believe how fun it all was!!

New blog header

Thought it was time to refresh the header on this here little blog. Nothing fancy. Just a little change.

I don't use Photoshop. I rock the standard Paint program that comes in the MS Windows Accessories folder. Oh-yeeah! I also only have the standard system fonts. Nice, right?

Anyway. I think I prefer the second one. You?

UPDATE: Sergio says the first one is better. I'm on the fence now...

UPDATE 2: I think I'll post the 2nd for now and see how it feels. Maybe I switch it to the first later...

Do you Pinterest? (Cute bunny alert!)

What is Pinterest? Description from the About page:

"
Pinterest is a social catalog service. Think of it as a virtual pinboard — a place where you can post collections of things you love, and "follow" collections created by people with great taste."

I just started pinning earlier tonight and am kind of excited. Of course, it's one more way to squander away precious hours on the laptop...zooming about the interwebs, pinning things I like. But you know, now that I've pinned a few things, I've realized that it's a great place for me to organize inspiration and ideas. Organization paves the way for inspiration to progress, right?

Plus, my fellow "pinners" are pretty cool. I've "re-pinned" a few things from them already. Like this devastatingly cute bunny. Don't you want to squeeze and tickle those fuzzy bunny feet?

Anyway, here are are my pinterest boards. Kind of sparse right now but I'm sure I'll find things to fill them with in no time.

FNO: Abbot Kinney

FNO success! Sergio and I have never explored Abbot Kinney together so we though it would be the perfect choice. We knew the night was going to be awesome when we scored great parking almost immediately. It wasn't too crowded, everyone was super friendly -- absolutely no pretension. Lots of happy, smiley peeps out on a lovely evening, enjoying drinks and fashion. There are so many great shops on that street now. It has really transformed since the decade plus or so since I've last been.

So, what did we come home with?
  1. A kinetic sculpture from Surfing Cowboys. Great store. Can't wait to go back.
  2. A money tree in egg shaped planter from The Juicy Leaf. A store after my own succulent lovin' heart.
  3. A new friendship with the proprietor of The Juicy Leaf. (Hi Felix!)

It spins!

Money tree egg getting cozy with my heath and eri sugimoto vases.

Snippets from our 'till closing time chat:

F: "Felix like the cat."
E: "Elsie like the cow."

F: "Would you like a Shandy? It's half Heineken half Sprite. It's refreshing!"
E: (ew face)

E: "Oh wow, it's really good."

F: "I love the smart car. "
E: "Me too! I have a picture of me hugging one!

(love it.)

BONUS: Sergio and I chatted with handbag superstar Clare Vivier and met her lovely friends Else (pronounced Elsa) and Jocelyn outside of Steven Alan. I almost picked up the Trop...or buttery red Mini-Sac. Uh-oh. Inner banter about to ensue. Please ignore as you like. (soon. i promise. no really. yeah, i know. but i really wanted that trop. yeah. i know. do you really need...shut up, YES. really? si. no, really. sighx2. you know, it's your fault for letting that discount code expire. yeah, i know.)

Fashion's Night Out 2010

LA FNO 2010

Fashion's Night Out is in Los Angeles this year! And it's tonight! (it's way too late. i've been uploading vegas pics. yawn.) This global event promotes fashion and commerce, with an eye toward charity. Check out all the countries with participating cities!

There are so many events! I'm a little beside myself on which to attend. I'm seriously considering Abbot Kinney so I can stalk Cviv. But then, I've been meaning to check out the new Santa Monica Place. I mean, JT is gonna be there! Oh wait, there's the Beverly Center where there is a red carpet event, the mayor, and fashion shows! What about my beloved Los Feliz...

I have no idea which I'll be at. Probably the one Sergio is willing to drive me to. Yeah, I know. I'm majorly crowd leery and this event promises to be crowded. And dang it, the hipness of it all will inevitably make me feel out of place. But how can I resist the lure of live music, cupcakes, flowing cocktail samples, the chance to meet the designers themselves -- and percentages of purchases going toward various charitable causes? Well. I wont. Resist, I mean. I'll let you know how I fare.

Nina Zilli

Just got back from a relaxing couple of nights in Vegas. Can't believe it had been so long since we've been back there. It has changed so much already!

While I catch up from our little trip, upload photos etc., please gaze at my new style muse: Nina Zilli.

The following three photos are fan photos from her facebook page.

She looks tough and sweet at the same time. Like hard candy.

Now listen to her amazing voice in this gorgeous song (50mila). I kind of want to be her right now. Turn on your sound and click on the image below to link out to YouTube.

9.4.2010 - Pasta Dinner

Woke early this morning to a dining table still laden with vestiges of last night's pasta dinner. I loaded the dishwasher with a smile. It had been a long time since we had the family over. Dad wore the snazzy Hawaiian shirt we got for him in Waikiki. He was stylin'.

I did not get any photos of the dinner itself. So, to make up for it, below are photos I took this morning of the pasta, the tortas, and the box of mooncake.

Isn't all the packaging so lovely?

Dinner Menu
  • Pasta: Chicken & Basil sausage with Cremini mushroom and Parmesan cheese
  • Grilled Corn on the cob
  • Fresh fruit: Watermelon, Asian pears, strawberries
  • Spanish torta wafers served with espresso
  • Mooncake
  • Two bottles of Foley Chardonnay and a champagne!

9.3.2010 - Happy Hour, Dessert, Stroll

The late LA summer sun set as we strolled from our favorite wine bar to Alcove. Betsy caught me and Sergio swooning for each other. Nelson showed up with a twinkle in his eye. I kissed a magician painter.

ME: Hello Yoga. YOGA: Hello Stranger.

Last week, I attended a yoga class. Meet my new yoga mat:

Confession: It was my first yoga class in maybe 5 or 6 years. (I'm sorry body. I suck. I know.)

I was once a regular but then, I joined a gym and felt stupid paying for outside classes when I had a gym membership. Then the gym yoga classes stopped aligning with my schedule. I purchased a set of yoga DVDs and never made it past the first one. I've since quit the gym (yes!) and became a full time couch slug. Lord I'm good at that.

Then, on my last birthday, I told myself I needed to be more active. Do things I love. And I believed me. I kind of loved yoga back when I was young and limber. Maybe I can love it again?

I'm returning to the same class tonight. 2nd dates are usually a little less awkward than the first, right? A little less painful?
